Ok, sometimes you run some commands via the command prompt and want to show your friends how it’s done, but how would you copy text from the command prompt? It’s pretty easy, so let’s start to copy stuff!

Text can be copied directly from the command prompt

1. Step Right-click on the command prompt windows and hover over the entry “EDIT“.
2. Step Click on “Mark”

3. StepHold down your left mouse-button and draw a rectangle around the text of the command prompt.
4. StepRepeat step 1 and 2, but this time click on “Copy”
5. Step Paste the text that you copied from the command prompt into a notepad or anywhere else via CTRL+V.
Voilà, you just copied text from the command prompt! Easy, huh?

well well well it was really indeed this thing is really helpful…. there are certain things which we need to copy from the command prompt but couldn’t so thiswill help in doing so…..

While this is not new to W7, it’s a good tip. I use the cmd prompt a lot. Therefore I turn on quick edit as default.
Open cmd prompt > Right click top left corner and chose Properties > Under Edit Options, check QuickEdit Mode > OK to Exit.
Now you just have to press left mouse key and start hight-lighting text to copy, release button when done, and right-click mouse to execute copy.
And when you need to paste text into a cmd prompt, just right-click what you already have in clip board.
hey thanks buddy really needed to copy some things but always had to type them……
As soon as I highlight the text and right click again the highlight disappears and I can’t immediately get the right click menu back again until I right click AGAIN and then I can’t select “copy” – help!
OK I solved my problem. Think I’ve found the best solution. Turn on QuickEdit which the commenter above showed how, then highlight text and simply press Enter. Now the selection is in memory so just paste it using either Paste command or Ctrl+V. I’m running Windows 7. Thanks to you and the person above who told me about QuickEdit :)
Except they should probably remove the line “Under Edit Options” because the QuickEdit switch was staring me in the face as soon as I opened Properties.
(and it’s called ‘Options’ not ‘Edit Options’)

Also, one doesn’t have to “Right click top left corner” of command window to bring up the options because a left click will suffice.
