Prevent Windows 7 Themes From Changing Sound Themes + Download

Do you have a special sound theme for Windows 7 that you want to keep, no matter what? If so, you can easily prevent that other Windows 7 themes can change your sound theme.

Image: Sound themes are greyed out when registry tweak is active.

Update: According to user feedback, you can only prevent users from changing the sound theme, not individual themes. Our recommendation is to create a backup theme with your favorite sound scheme selected and make sure to save the sound scheme too, then you can always select it from the dropdown

Manual Registry Tweak

1. Step Open the registry editor

2. Step Uncollapse the key path to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows.

Create a new key by right-clicking on the folder Windows, then left-clicking on New -> Key

3. Step Create a new DWORD registry key (right-click into the right pane) called NoChangingSoundScheme and change the value from “0” to “1”

Download Registry Tweak

We have prepared the registry tweak for this. Simply download it and double-click on it.

Here’s the content of the file (you can also copy it into a notepad file, save it as a .reg file and then execute it)

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Personalization]
“NoChangingSoundScheme”=dword:00000001
