Hardware Requirements

Disk:

Naturally, you will want to make sure you have more than that available. As a general guideline, you should always try to have at least 15% of your hard drive free for system operations.

RAM / CPU:

In addition to the computer itself, you will need to make sure you have a good headset. The headset should be able to plug into a USB port in order to get the best use out of Rosetta Stone.

Internet Requirements

Rosetta Stone’s most recent editions are all designed to connect to the Internet periodically for updates and to access important online information. You will need a high speed Internet connection for this purpose. A modem simply will not do; if you do use a modem, you should consider upgrading to DSL or a faster form of Internet access for both Rosetta Stone and many other programs. In addition to a high speed connection, you will need an upgraded Internet browser. Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 3, Safari 3, or Google Chrome 8 all function just fine with Rosetta Stone.

Operating System

Older versions of Rosetta Stone can run on operating systems dating as far back as Windows 2000. However, if you have the TOTALe Online edition, which is the current version in use by most people, you will need at least Windows XP in order to run the software. Anything newer than Windows XP can be used to run both the Personal and Enterprise editions of the software. Do be sure that your operating system is up to date and that you have installed any patches or security upgrades prior to installing Rosetta Stone. Failure to do so may cause a few compatibility issues if you install the operating system upgrades after the software. Such glitches are rare, but are still best avoided whenever possible.

If you have the system requirements listed above, you should be able to get the remaining requirements easily. You can download Adobe Flash Player 10.3 for free and any modern computer has the ability to display is at least 1024 x 768 resolution. Once you have those, you can install Rosetta Stone and start learning a foreign language quickly.
