The multi-layer displacement maps are pretty amazing, allowing dynamic morphing effects. But what’s even more amazing is the number of polygons that geometry can have now thanks to tessellation, dynamic depth and other algorithms. The demonstration level in the video has over 2 billion polygons. Keep in mind, like 10 years ago most character models had like 50 polygons and good textures were pretty important to make it look good. Ever ran Zelda: The Ocarina of Time in polygon mode? Link’s sword has like 3 polygons only ;)
