Windows 7 Themes Service Enabled A lot of people mail me lately stating that their Themes service is not working properly on Windows 7. Very frequently, it helps to simply restart that particular service to avoid problems.

Stopping And Starting The Themes Service

1. Step Open an elevated command prompt (you can find it on the Metro Start screen in Windows 8)

2. Step Enter net stop Themes, hit Enter

Net Stop Themes System Error 5 Has Occurred

If you started a regular command prompt you would get the error “Access is denied“, please start an elevated command prompt

To start an elevated command prompt, enter cmd.exe then RIGHT-click on it and select “Run as administrator”:
Run As Admin Cmd Exe

You should now have this – ugly, eh? Windows 95 all over again

Disabled Themes Service

3. Step Enter net start Themes, hit Enter and there we go back again to the glorious Aero theme:

Windows 7 Themes Service Enabled

Restarting the themes service can help you to overcome some problems to a certain degree, however it will not magically solve all problems
