If you want to run the system restore from command prompt, because your explorer.exe won’t start, follow the next few steps.

How to run system restore from command prompt

1. Step Open a command prompt – you can do that via task manager (click on File, New Task and enter cmd.exe and hit enter)

2. Step Now enter rstrui.exe – the command to run system restore from command prompt

3. Step System restore will now open and you can use it.

Important: Obviously, this will NOT work if you are not logged into Windows 7.

rstrui.exe does not have any command line options as far as I know.

How to restore Windows 7 without system restore

If you can’t even log into Windows 7, I suggest that you run some basic commands first:

sfc.exe /scannow
chkdsk /r /f
